SSP Finland to renew services at Helsinki Railway Station together with VR Group

SSP Finland has signed an agreement with VR-Group to complement the restaurant offerings at Helsinki Central Railway Station.

SSP will open a total of four new cafés and restaurants at the station, offering high-quality and varied food and drink to passengers and city dwellers in a unique setting. The first two cafés will open in the renovated kiosks in early 2024 and will serve customers with their high quality take-away offer. The next phase of restaurant facilities will attract customers to stay longer at the station.

Elena Heiska, MD of SSP Finland, says: “We are very happy and proud to be involved in the development of Helsinki Central Station, one of the most important and busiest transport hubs in Finland. We want to offer passengers and city residents a high-quality and varied range of café and restaurant services that meet their needs and expectations. We believe that our new restaurants will add value to the attraction of the station and enliven its atmosphere.”

“We are currently creating the next century of the main railway station as a more welcoming meeting place – the focus remains on honouring the remarkable work of Eliel Saarinen. It is close to our hearts that this national pride and joy will be preserved for future generations and will also serve today’s passengers, city dwellers and tourists even better,” says Jani Jääskeläinen, Project Manager at VR Group.

The first phase will see the opening of Starbucks, a café serving world-famous speciality coffees, teas and snacks, and Upper Crust, a café serving crispy and filling baguettes and other pastries, familiar from Helsinki Airport.
